X-RAY, having some advantages, in the long run does not stack up to the advantages of GPR.  The table below offered by GSSI is a great quick comparison between the two.

Above:  X-Ray film outlines.

This example demonstrates that x-ray is not user friendly.  In the morning when the contractor comes in, they are left with a stack of film to decipher.  If there is something in the way of a core, then the x-ray techs need to come back out, and shoot another spot.  Compare this technique to GPR.

  Above:  GPR survey lines.

This example demonstrates how quick and easy GPR is.  Not only is GPR safe during working hours, but if there is something that is in the way of the core, then the GPR survey shows where it is in real-time.  No need to re-shoot another film.  Plus, since GPR only needs ONE SIDE to survey, there is no re-set up time needed.
